THERE IS A RADICAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MEDICINE AND CHIROPRACTIC!

This article was written by Herman Dunn, on our behalf to avoid bias.

We have all been indoctrinated into the medical model, and few of us have much understanding of chiropractic procedures.  Each is distinct, and it is important to know the difference if you wish to make intelligent health care choices.

Allow me to explain further.

First of all, let me make it clear that Chiropractic is not better than Medicine nor vice versa – they are just different.  The practice of medicine saves lives!  We need to know the truth about it, however, in order to use it appropriately.

If we view the scale of our state of health as a range from perfect health to extreme sickness, we can distinguish the focus of Chiropractic from the focus of Medicine and clearly see the difference between the two.  Medicine is primarily concerned with the sickness end of the scale, and the Medical Doctors are expert at identifying and treating illness.

Chiropractic Doctors focus is on the health end of the scale and the Chiropractors expertise is in restoring and maintaining health.  It is often said that Chiropractors do not treat disease or symptoms.  Because our two professions operate from opposite ends of the scale, it’s very difficult, if not impossible, for the two to understand or relate to one another. We should simply stop comparing the two and, instead, recognize the value of each and make appropriate choices in their utilization.

Most of us deal with health problems in the “Crisis Care” mode – we’ve literally been programmed that way.  Just notice the millions of dollars of advertising we’re exposed to, take this pill for this, take that pill for that or take them both for something else.  At the end of these commercials they always show a couple dancing.  I’ve taken medication in pill form and I still can’t dance.  Also the advice we get form families, friends and Medical Doctors.

One of the most dangerous advertising and advice we have been given is “symptoms equal sickness,” Pain in the neck, shoulders, spine and hips does not usually mean we have heart disease or cancer.  If we operate at the symptoms end of the scale and take handfuls of pills, etc., we can never get to the health/wellness end of the scale.  In fact, taking medications, over the counter or not, make drastic changes in our bodies ability to actually fight off a serious illness.

“Wellness Care” is the domain of the chiropractic professional.  We, Chiropractors, are the best at restoring health.  “Health Care” is a mixed bag with the balance tipped heavily toward the chiropractic side.  “Wellness Care” as practiced by the chiropractor not only includes manipulation of the skeletal structure and muscles but, also includes proper nutrition and exercise.

Let’s be realistic of the truth.  Medication will not give you good health.  However, keeping your skeleton structure and muscles aligned as well as learning how to sit, stand and walk properly plus good nutrition and exercise will help lead to good health.

  1. Wow! I am 55 years old and was directed to your website and blog from a patient. Ironically, I was told to see a chiropractor from a friend and now I know why this might help me more than the pills I have been taking for several months. Thanks.

  2. Thank you for this information. I am having leg pain and, at 61, have had no relief from medication or physical therapy. I can no longer walk without pain. I will call your office for a consult.
