Chiropractic Attitude: Breaking Down "Nerve Flow"
In part 1 of Chiropractic Attitude (see March edition) we stated Innate Intelligence travels through nerves to allow the whole body to function. Now we will discuss in detail the subsections of the nerves and their functions.
The main or CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM is responsible for the control and coordination of entire body function, include the body's adaptation to its environment. It can be broken into three parts:
MOTOR NERVES (45%)
This part of the central nervous system controls the muscle function through controlled or reactionary movement. Normally the muscle is relaxed in its resting state. Abnormalities such as spasm, weakness or tightness can occur when there is improper nerve flow.
AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM (45%)
Their function is controlling the body systems such as the organs, veins, arteries. This happens automatically when this part of the central nervous functions normally. In abnormal circumstances, a person can experience stomach problems, urinary issues, breathing problem, etc.
SENSORY NERVOUS SYSTEM (10%)
As the smallest percentage of the central nervous system, this transmits information from the environment to the body such as sound, pressure, taste, and temperature. For example, upon shaking someone's hand, the pressure of the grip strength is sent to body and brain to shake back. In the grip is too strong, the immediate reaction is PAIN causing the person to scream or pull away. So the abnormal state of the sensory nerves is to cause pain so the body can respond appropriately.
When looking at the subsection of the central nervous system, most patients focus on PAIN as their concern for seeking Chiropractic Care. When looking at the above breakdown of the nervous system, it is obvious only 10% of the whole nerve feels pain.
As a Chiropractor, I am concerned what is causing the pain AND what functions of the body are being effected. In the part 3, we will discuss the Five Factors of Health relation to the Central Nervous System.
