Auto Accidents Questions and Answers

You are in an auto accident.

First of all, are you okay?

Do you need to be taken to a hospital because of bleeding, broken bones or unconsciousness for you or someone else in your vehicle?

Once the short-term “crisis” is under control, then we can deal with the long-term process of healing the body and returning LIFE back to normal.

Here are the most common questions & answers from auto accident patients:

1)  When should I see a Chiropractor?

At our office, we would like to see the patient within the first week of having an accident.  This allows us to the see the patient when there are still heightened injuries and symptoms.  Some positive examination tests will only occur at this time giving validity to the severity of trauma.

2) What are common questions asked by the doctors for auto accident patients?

Has the patient suffered any head injuries?  Some patients can suffer from Post-Concussion Syndrome: having dizziness, headaches, and/or eye pressure days after an accident.  This can lead to swelling of the brain, and will be monitored carefully.

Has the patient experienced any arm or leg pain after the accident?  This can occur due to swelling of a vertebral disc or muscle swelling around the disc.  This symptom can then be ruled in or out.

Does the patient have any pain around the ribs or chest area?  This is known as the Seat Belt Sign.  The seat belt restricts movement and may cause bruising or breaking of ribs in the process.

Are there other injuries to the body in addition to around the spine?  Sometimes patients don’t realize a knee, ankle, shoulder, wrist, or hip pain occurred in the accident as well.  Our office wants to make sure are injuries are accounted for so they can be examined and treated accordingly.

3) What is the appropriate time to seek out an attorney for my auto accident?

Quoted for an experienced office manager with over 20 years experience, “We refer our patients to an attorney when they cannot settle their personal injury case by themselves, or do not have medical insurance or medical payment to reimburse the Chiropractic services given.  A referral can occur at the start, middle, or end of Chiropractic care without affecting the patient’s personal injury case.”

As a rule of thumb, we want to make the patient’s life as easy as possible after an accident.  An attorney can do this by mediating the auto insurance companies to attain payment for services rendered.

4) How do I get back to my health state before the accident?

The legal term to return to a patient’s normal health is “permanent and stationary.”  What this means is any treatment goal is to get the person to recover from all physical injuries.  Our office expands on this by having a more in-depth goal.  We want our patients to experience good health at least three months after their personal injury treatment has been stopped.

The patient is able to attain full recovery by following through with ALL treatment in-office and at home.  This will allow each patient to fully recover from ALL injuries and not have any physical problems after their case is closed.

If you or someone you know has been in an auto accident, please call our office immediately to assure your 100% recovery.
